Being married does not automatically make you responsible for your spouse&#039;s debts.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;If you have joint debts, because you both signed on the loan or credit card, then you would need to contact the lender and ask to have your name removed.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;They will probably only remove your name if you agree to be responsible for at least a portion of the debt (ie. because you take out a loan in your name to repay the debt).&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;A lawyer or trustee can provide you with further information.</description>
