One Response to “Can I have my name removed from my husband’s debts?”
If they are your husband’s debts, you don’t need to have your name removed, since your name isn’t on his debts. Being married does not automatically make you responsible for your spouse’s debts.
If you have joint debts, because you both signed on the loan or credit card, then you would need to contact the lender and ask to have your name removed.
They will probably only remove your name if you agree to be responsible for at least a portion of the debt (ie. because you take out a loan in your name to repay the debt).
A lawyer or trustee can provide you with further information.
