How private is filing for bankruptcy? Is this a public record? Who can access it? Is your name published anywhere? Thank you.

The government keeps a public record of all bankruptcies in Canada. Through this public record, searches are possible to be made. Further, a bankruptcy is recorded on the credit reports. With respects to an ad in the newspaper, they are only required in “larger” bankruptcies. The reality of it though is bankruptcy remains a relatively private process. To discuss your situation and what information would be known, I suggest you contact a trustee to discuss in more detail.
