Income Tax Arrears

We are self employed and owe a total of 7,000 dollars on income tax and gst. We barely can afford to buy gas for our business. According to our accountant we should not be in business. What to do when you live in a shoe and cannot even afford to buy everyday things. I am two years away from pension and partner is 56. What do I do. Claim bankruptcy and go on welfare?

In Bankruptcy but moving to the USA

I should be recieving my discharge papers but it seems my husband is in for another 6 months. My husband is looking for a new job as his has been eliminated. They are still paying him (floating to help out) so he does have a job for the momment. He may have an opportunity to take a job in the USA. I might have to stay and get things organized (two children) and leave after Chirstmas. In the mean time I will live in our house and he will have to get an apartment. Is there any allowence given now that there will be two households to live in. Not sure if we can do it otherwise but then if he doesn't have a job and won't be able to afford a house anywhere.

Early Payment & Discharge - Consumer Proposal

I filed a consumer proposal 1 year ago and currently pay $500 per month for 36 months. My financial situation is better now than it was a year ago because I got a better job and received a small inheritance from my parents recently. I want to repair my credit early so I'm thinking of paying the remaining amount in full to the Trustee (i.e. pay in full the remaining 24 months intallments). Also, I want to apply for a credit card soon because I find it inconvenient sometimes without credit card especially when travelling. My questions are:

1. Will I be discharged right away after making the full payment even before the expiration of the 36 months term of the consumer proposal?

2. Who will issue my discharge papers (the court or the trustee)?

3. Can the creditors ask for more or additional payments if they learn that my financial situation has improved & that I have made a pre-payment of the consumer proposal?

4. Once I'm discharged from my debts, who long will it take to reflect my discharge on my credit report from the time of discharge?

Thank you.

Separated - wife went bankrupt - what should I do?

My wife left me after 10 years of marriage and unknown to me,declared bankruptcy on her own. All debts she left to me were joint debts such as credit cards, car loan and a line of credit. The creditors are now after me but with one income I am struggling to survive. There must be something I can do to respond to this. I am so financially tight being left with two children that I cannot afford a lawyer or a trustee. Can you advise me on what course of action I can take. ? The car has been repossessed, but the bank are still asking for money- do I have to pay them. Is my wife, we are not divorced but have been apart for 2 years, legally responsible for any of this "joint" debt. Please advise me

Sincerely
Stressed out and depressed -- (name withheld) age 34

Joint Bankruptcy Claim

If my husband and I file a joint claim for bankruptcy, do we each get to keep the exempted amounts, or would we jointly keep the exempted amounts? For example, would we each keep furniture up to $11,300? vehicles up to $5,650? or up to these amounts in total between the two of us?
